Looking back on early modern Europe from right now, we generally assume that they were incredibly repressed sexually, at least I thought so. Which was true, but not to the extent that one would expect. Sexual deviance is a very tricky subject in history. Technically, society was against different sexual orientations (although the concept of sexual orientation didn’t really exist) but people did have homosexual relationships, but found reasons to make these relationships acceptable. People were pretty contradictory if I do say so myself.
